As promised, I've sent the following letter via email to the Minister for Transport, Andrew Constance, outlining community opposition to the decision to terminate the 422 bus at Central instead of the CBD, and directing his attention to the petition signed by nearly 350 people in just two days. I also sent a very similar email to the Secretary of Transport for NSW.

Attn: The Hon Andrew Constance MP, Re: Changes to 422 bus service (Sydney)

Dear Minister,

I am the Independent Councillor for the Stanmore ward of the Inner West Council. I write in regards to the changes to bus services in Sydney's inner west that are due to take effect on Sunday 6 May, which have been the cause of much concern among my constituents.

In particular, the decision to amend the 422 bus route so that it starts and terminates in Central (Pitt St) rather Martin Place has been widely opposed by residents who rely on this service to the city. For many of these residents, this service is the only bus they can access that currently runs to and from the CBD.

In response to residents' concerns, I started a petition calling on you and Transport for NSW to keep this route running to the CBD on Wednesday 2 May. You can view this at bit.ly/422petition, and I would be happy to send you a full list of signatories upon request.

At the time of writing, almost 350 people have signed the petition in just over two days. This substantial and swift response should indicate how much people rely on this service to travel to and from the city, and how deeply unpopular the decision to terminate it at Central instead has been.

Residents have told me this change will add unnecessary travel time and inconvenience to their journeys, and make using public transport even more difficult for those who have prams or mobility issues. I also note there is a significant amount of development planned for our area on top of the population growth we're already experiencing, making retaining services to the city even more important.

I urge you in the strongest possible terms to reverse this decision and keep the 422 bus service running to and from the CBD.
