BEREJIKLIAN SLAMMED FOR "SHAMEFUL" WESTCONNEX M4-M5 LINK APPROVAL

INDEPENDENT Inner West Councillor Pauline Lockie has slammed the Berejiklian government for approving the WestConnex M4-M5 Link project.

"It is absolutely shameful that Gladys Berejiklian and her government have approved Stage 3 of WestConnex despite the disastrous impact this toxic tollway is having on families in Inner West and Western Sydney," said Clr Lockie, a founding member of the WestCONnex Action Group.

"The fact that the Berejiklian government buried the news about this approval for 10 days shows that they know how shameful this is.

"This latest WestConnex approval continues the Berejiklian government's sell-out of Sydney to their tollway mates.

"Rather than easing congestion, WestConnex will subject people to even more traffic and pollution, crippling tolls, and 24/7 construction noise and disruption," said Clr Lockie.

Clr Lockie also criticised the NSW government for approving the project based on a concept design.

"The WestCONnex M4-M5 Link's environmental impact statement (EIS) was shockingly bad. It was based on a poorly designed 'concept' that didn't even say how major sections such as the Rozelle interchange are to be built.

"What kind of government approves a tollway without a proper design?"

Clr Lockie also placed little faith in the so-called "strict conditions" the NSW government has placed on the project to protect people from construction impacts.

"We saw these promises with previous WestConnex approvals," Clr Lockie said.

"Yet I have residents coming to me in distress every day because of the horrific conditions they're living through with WestConnex.

"If Gladys Berejiklian was serious about reducing the impact of WestConnex on residents, she would have taken action on this already. And she certainly wouldn't have approved yet another stage of this toxic tollway," Clr Lockie said.
